Island Peak Climbing - 17 Days

Imja Tse Peak (6160 meters / 20210 feet)- Island Peak Climbing will be a great experience for all types of people, who is in search for moderate, adventurous climbing experience. All you need for this trip is your positive attitude and in sound physical health, as this trip takes you to the high popular route of Everest with ample time to get acclimatized and to be in the high mountain spirit before the ascent to Island Peak or Imja Tse 6160 meters / 20210 feet. It offers a worthwhile challenge and competent in using ice-axe and crampons, being technically straight forward. The climb will be undertaken towards the end of the trek when everyone will be fully acclimatized after the moderate walk from Lukla and to Kalapattar. Finally heading for the Imja valley and Island Peak Base Camp. For those not attempting the climb of Island Peak there is the opportunity to explore the Imja Khola Valley.

This trip offers an enjoyable climb the peak, also provides some of the most striking scenery in the Khumbu. If the peak can be likened to an Island in a glacial sea, than the main land forms a semicircle of cliffs that rise in the north to the rugged summit of Nuptse ( 7879m/ 25850ft ), Lhotse ( 9501m/27870ft), Lhotse middle peak ( 8410m / 27590ft), as yet still unclimbed and Lhotse Shar ( 8383m/ 27503ft ). To the east, rising above the frozen waves of the Lhotse Shar glacier, is Cho polu( 6734m/ 22093ft ), beyond which can be seen the red granite mass of Makalu ( 8475m/ 27805ft). To the south of the Imja glacier and icy flutings of Baruntse Mountain (7720 m / 25328 ft) and the Amphu peaks lead the eye to the lofty pinnacle of Ama Dablam Mountain ( 6812m / 22350 ft ), which is liked a giant sea stack guarding the entrance to the glacial bay in which Island peak stands. Day 17: Departure from Kathmandu

Day 1
Arrive Kathmandu.

Arrive to Kathmandu, an exciting and memorable experience with the panoramic view of snow-capped Himalayan range greets your sight. Our Airport Representative will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel.

Day 2
Permit Preparation / Sightseeing

We will finalize paperwork-permit for your trip. Final checking of your climbing equipment. Sightseeing tours of Kathmandu Valley.

Day 3
Kathmandu - Lukla - Phakding

An early morning flight takes us from Kathmandu airport to Lukla Tenzing-Hillary Airport at 2804 meters after 35 minutes scenic flight. Lukla is the hub airport to Khumbu which renamed Tenzing-Hillary Airport too. On arrival at the airport guide will brief you and introduce our porters before we begin our trek towards Phakding at 2610 meters.

Day 4
Phakding - Namche Bazaar

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3441 meters) 5.30 hours. Namche Bazaar known as the capital of Khumbu and the Gateway to Everest which is home to many good hotels and lodges here, along the whole Everest trail this is quite a big village.

Day 5
Acclimatization day- Namche Bazzar

Namche Bazaar Acclimatization day. We will spend a day here in order to acclimatize and adjust to the thinning of the air. As well as a short trek where a museum is celebrating the traditional customs of the Sherpa people. Today we hike up the Syangboche Airport around Everest View Hotel. From this point, we can see rewarding views of the Himalayas with a stunning sunrise and sunset over the panorama of Khumbu peaks.

Day 6
Trek to Tyangboche Monastery

Trek to Tyangboche Monastery (3860 meters) 5 hours. We trek to an altitude of 3860 meters today. On reaching Tyangboche our guide will tell you about the local monastery situated here. The group will be taken to observe a prayer ceremony either in the evening or morning depending on how the days trekking went.

Day 7
Trek to Dingboche (4350 meters)

Trek to Dingboche (4350 meters) 5.30 hours. We continue to climb as we head to the altitude of 4350 meters taking our time so we avoid getting affected by the thinning of the air.

Day 8
Trek to Chhukung (4710 meters)

Trek to Chhukung (4710 meters) You can see mountains which are waiting for your welcome arrival to Chhukung. After reaching Chhukung we will also check our equipment in order to get ready for our ultimate climb.

Day 9
Trek to Island peak Base Camp (5240 m.)

Trek to Island peak base camp (5240 meters) is on a fairly steep trail. Climb south then turn east to the main line of the valley. We then walk on a winding path below the southern flank of the moraine from the Lhotse Glacier. Next, we continue walking on a pleasant trail along a streamside. The route to the Amphu Labtsa lies to the southeast. A crisscross route through the Imja and Lhotse glacier moraines leads to a wide valley flanking the SW side of Island Peak.

Day 10
Ascent Island Peak (6160 meters / 20210 feet) and return to Base Camp

We use fixed rope after successfully climbing on rock. The length of the rope will usually be 350 m. However, the length depends on the time of the season and the crevasses.There are two newly formed crevasses which are approximately 3 and 4 meters long. We will be using ladders to cross them. Summit to Island peak (6160 meters / 20210 feet). After enjoying the summit views and taking pictures, we descend all the way to Island Peak Base Camp where your crew are waiting. Clean your base camp well with happiness of success.

Day 11
Spare Day for Contingency

The weather condition in the Himalayas is unpredictable so this spare day enables us to be flexible with the Island Peak Climbing program depending upon the weather condition or other problems.

Day 12
Island Peak Base Camp to Pangboche (3985 m.)

Descend to Pangboche by following the same route back through the wide valley of Khumbu Khola, we pass through the beautiful Sherpa villages, Tea Houses , Chhukung and Dingoche. Pangboche is a scenic village surrounded by Mount Everest to its north, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kangtega to the east, Kongde to the south and the Imja Tse river flowing through the wide fertile valley.

Day 13
Trek to Namche Bazaar

Trek to Namche Bazar via Tyangboche Monastery. You may visit Monastery and enjoy lunch in Tyangboche, then continue through the rhododendron and Juniper forest. Follow Dudhkoshi river and descend rapidly through the pine forests before reaching Sansa. Keep a look for wildlife such as mountain goats, snow leopards, colorful pheasants etc. a scenic and pleasant walk brings you to Namche for the overnight.

Day 14
Namche - Lukla

Walk at your own best pace, leisurely and enjoy the lush green scenery around. Apart from few short uphill climbs and then down to the Bhote-Koshi River crossing it three times and the only long climb will be just before Lukla which will take approximately 45 minutes from a place called Choplung or from the old big oak tree. On reaching Lukla, Enjoy time to reflect on the trek as a group and the personal achievement of all those who took part. Prepare for the last day great dinner with the fellow Sherpa crew, porters and climbing members.

Day 15
Lukla - Kathmandu (Flight back)

The flight time to Kathmandu are schedule for normally for morning, sometime the flight time can be delayed due to bad weather and other reason, depending upon the flight time make way to the terminal for security check. This scenic flight from Lukla takes about 35 minutes to Kathmandu, a scenic view of the snow capped peaks can be seen from window of the plane. Arrive Kathmandu domestic terminal and drive to your Hotel.

Day 16
Contingency / Leisure day in Kathmandu.

Contingency / Leisure day in Kathmandu. Farewell-Celebration dinner. Local Shopping.

Day 17
Departure Day

After your complete trek, transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your final flight departure. Our Airport Representative will take you to the Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport – TIA for your flight departure.
